How can your pencil become a reference tool?
Today on Artist Strong I offer you a quick video tip on using your pencil as a tool for understanding angles and spatial relationships. It’s not just a drawing utensil, it can help you make accurate observations from images and from life.

Be Courageously Creative: Complete a quick sketch of the corner of your room by just “eyeballing” it. Now, go back and use a colored pencil to both measure and then correct your marks on the same piece of paper. Compare your pencil marks with the colored pencil marks. Share it with us in the Facebook Group.

Wow. I have used my pencil to compare angles before, but my aha, was the chest of drawers, that as they go up, the angle of the drawer kept changing…and finding the visual horizon when there isn’t a line for it. Tadaa!!
This is probably one of the reasons I struggle with perspective.
Seeing starts to make all the difference. Now you can practice applying this too!
