Have you ever made a commitment to yourself and your art, only to find that life gets in the way?
I certainly have!
In the build up to my solo exhibition, I made a commitment to make art everyday in the month of May.
I started off the month missing the first two days!
Now, my inner perfectionist gave me one set of advice, which I bet you can guess.
I chose to listen to my inner artist instead.
Today we talk about how perfectionism holds you back from making your best art.
I have to say I see this conversation in an entirely new light as a new mother, too. It’s too easy to bully ourselves out of making art when our plans go astray. And it’s easy to feel like its not worth showing up if we can’t reach the goal we set for ourselves.
Let’s remember together: it’s about doing the work.
Tell me: what’s your experience with moments like this? Have you stopped participating in a challenge because you missed a day or two? Where has your inner perfectionist got in the way? What can you do about it moving forward? I look forward to chatting more with you in the comments below.
